2014-2015 Annual Celebration

The Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation held its annual Education Celebration on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the GE Theater at Proctors

The annual gala was held to celebrate education and the achievements of the students and staff of the Schenectady School District.  The evening was devoted to reflecting on some of the school district’s achievements and most generous benefactors. Entertainment was be provided by Schenectady Student Ensemble under the direction of Rob Aronstein.  The Steinmetz Career and Leadership Academy Culinary students and Laura Macey catered the event. Jack Aernecke served as Master of Ceremonies.

The Foundation paid tribute to members of the school community with our Crystal Apple Awards, which are given to a community organization that contributes to the education of our students and to a Distinguished Alumnus. The Dr. Ray & June Benenson Community Service Award was given to the GE Volunteers for their many contributions to the students in the district.  The Ernie Kahn Outstanding Alumnus Award was given to Robert Pezzano, who has worked untiringly for the athletic programs in the district.  We also recognized two Teachers of the Year: Robert Aronstein (2014) and Kristen Olochnowicz (2015). Each of these winners serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of education and service to community.

The mission of the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation is to provide supplemental funding for the enhancement of learning opportunities for the students in the Schenectady Public Schools.  The evening is a tribute to the students and to the adults who have contributed to that mission.
