Bill grew up in Albany and graduated from Vincentian Institute. He received his BA in History at the College of the Holy Cross in 1963 and in 1964 earned an MAT at Harvard. He taught at BH-BL HS for 39 years and served as High School Social Studies Chair & District Social Studies Chair for 34 years. He has been active in professional organizations serving as president of the CDCSS, the NYSCSS and NYSCEA providing leadership for NY’s adoption of the Economics and Government mandates, integration of the arts in content areas, and integration of skills and content. Since 1989 he has been an adjunct professor in the Union Graduate School of Education, working as a supervisor in the MAT program. He has received distinguished educator awards from the BH-BL PTA, CDCSS, and the NYSCSS. He has been active in Boy Scouts, Study Circles, Schenectady High School PTA and has been a United Way volunteer since 1990. Bill has been on the board for 6 years serving as Secretary, Vice President, and chairperson of the annual gala, the Nominations Committee, and the Allocations Committee.
He married Susan Smith Schultz in 1973 after a brief courtship in the Soviet Union. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Laura is an Economics professor, Christopher works in finance and Michael is a Social Studies Teacher. In semi-retirement Sue and he have been trying to satisfy our wanderlust with trips to China, India, Australia, etc.
